The Essential Rousseau
Published in Paperback by New American Library Trade (February, 1989)
Average review score:

Excellent Classroom Edition"The Essential Rousseau" is an edition of, as its name suggests, Rousseau's most essential works, including his "Discourse on the Arts and Letters" and "Discourse on the Origins of Inequality" in their entirity, as well as excerpts from other major works, including "The Social Contract" and "The Savoyard Priest". The translation is clear and accurate, the selection of tests is appropraite and accurately reflects what I would consider to be essential. There's a good brief sketch of Rousseau's life and work in the beginning, and a quick introduction to each work. All in all, this is a fine edition for assignment in the classroom and for students.

Failure & Progress : A Powerful Performance Acceleration Strategy!
Published in Paperback by The GoalsGuy (28 June, 1999)
Average review score:

Failure & ProgressPeople are naive about the benefits of failure. Wrongly founded assumptions about failure replace potentially accurate assessments of what is necessary to achieve success. Failure, which spends much of its life in the gulag of public perception, is, by all measures, essential to success. It is failure's peculiar fate that its reputation is routinely reinforced by negative perceptions.
Gary Ryan Blair explained to me that failure does have an ulterior motive... not to get you to quit, but to stop you long enough so that you may learn something, re-strategize, and re-launch again more prepared for success.
This single insight was one of the most important thoughts I'd come across in years. This little book packs a powerful message!

Flying Dimitri
Published in Hardcover by Orchard Books (September, 1997)
Average review score:

a strange and fascinating book with wonderful pictures!I have been a fan of Blair Drawson's work for many years. "Flying Dimitri" is particularly interesting to me because it is so imaginative and fanciful, and it makes me wonder what happened to Dimitri's mother. I'll bet she looked a lot like the queen of Mars! The paintings in this book are at the same time very pretty and very strange. Highly recommended!

Francis Preston Blair
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (February, 1980)
Average review score:

A most interesting and fascinating book!Francis Preston Blair was born at Abingdon, Va., on April 12, 1791, was editor of the Jackson Democratic paper, the Globe, from 1830 to 1845, and died Oct 19, 1876. I found this book written with a sprightly style and really enjoyed it. Francis Preston Blair was a confidant of Jackson and Lincoln, and the father of Montgomery Blair (Lincoln's Postmaster-General till the fall of 1864) and of Francis Preston "Frank" Blair, Jr., who served in the House of Representatives and the Senate from Missouri and was a Civil War general and, with Thomas Hart Benton, is Missouri's representative in Statutory Hall in Washington. Francis Preston Blair, Sr., was among the earliest Republicans, but reverted to the Democratic Party after the Civil War ended. His life was an extraordinary one, lived thru momentous years, and this is a good book to read. It is not overly scholarly--footnotes are not copious and there is no bibliography as such, but the author is clearly at home in the period (he has done a biography of Benton, and discussed it with John F. Kennedy, Benton being a figure in Kennedy's Profiles of Courage), and tells the story well. The period the subject's life covered is a period of high drama and one that has alwys been a source of fascination for me.

Goal Setting for Knuckleheads
Published in Paperback by The GoalsGuy (12 November, 2001)
Average review score:

A kick in the bum, and a arm over the shoulder! This short and sweet book really distills the essence of goal setting down to its basics. And it does so in an energetic and engaging voice. After all, THE GOALSGUY's approach is to kick his reader in the rear-end, while simultaneously share his success formula.
GOAL SETTING FOR KNUCKLEHEADS, has a tone that is honest, forthright, and challenging. As THE GOALSGUY promises, he'll "prod and provoke you into making some significant and permanent changes." Guess what, he delivers!
I highly recommend this book if you want a different and lighthearted, but not lightweight, approach to the basics of goal setting! What's more, I found KNUCKLEHEADS to be a great tongue-in-cheek gift for every knucklehead in my family and organization. I just signed it, "From one knucklehead to another!" :)

Write Down Your Goals in Your Goals Journal!I have purchased several of Gary's books and attended one of his seminars. He stresses the importance of writing down your goals and not just keeping them in your head.
This Goals Journal takes you through a step by step process of writing, evaluating, planning and then achieving your goals. I highly recommend it.
